Description
Deep burgundy, warm copper, radiant orange, and dark foliage that acts like a natural frame – "Jora Dahl – Dahlia variabilis 'Bishop’s Children'" is one of those varieties that become more exciting with every glance. The colors glow intensely, appearing both modern and earthy, making this dahlia an instant statement in any garden.
The mix of semi-double and single flowers creates a vibrant, slightly wild overall impression. Bees and butterflies love the open blooms, and the dark green to almost black foliage provides a strong contrast that makes flower beds appear deeper and more elegant. Whether in a perennial border, as a solitary plant, or in large pots – Bishop’s Children thrives almost anywhere and brings a summery energy that lasts well into autumn.
As they grow, the plants prove to be robust, vigorous, and surprisingly uncomplicated. The many flower stems make this variety particularly valuable for those who love to cut flowers: in a vase, the warm colors appear elegant and slightly dramatic – an effect that works wonderfully in both modern and natural interiors.
Typically Jora Dahl, this variety combines high-quality seeds, botanical sensitivity, and an expressive color palette. A dahlia mix that brings joy, inspires creativity, and instantly makes any flower bed special.

Sowing & Caring for Dahlias
For the best start, begin sowing indoors about 4–8 weeks before the last frost – usually between February and April. Lightly cover the seeds with soil, as they need light to germinate. Dahlias can sometimes be a bit fickle and germinate irregularly, so simply be patient and keep them consistently moist.
Young plants should only be moved outdoors once spring is truly stable and warm – around May or June. Direct sowing in the bed is not advisable for dahlias, as the small seeds are unlikely to germinate reliably outdoors.
A sunny location will later ensure strong plants and particularly abundant blooms. Water well, especially at the beginning, and possibly provide support depending on their height. From summer onwards, the plants will continuously provide you with new flowers.
Cutting Dahlias & Using Them for Vases
For the vase, choose flowers that have already opened about three-quarters of the way. Dahlias hardly open further after being cut, so don't cut them too early. Morning is ideal – the stems are then well hydrated and stay fresh longer.
In a vase, the flowers last about a week and beautifully showcase their warm, slightly dramatic coloring.
